1. Hassan Rouhani, a moderate cleric who was a surprise winner in the recent elections, took oath on Sunday as Iran's seventh President at a ceremony attended by a galaxy of world leaders, including Hamid Ansari, Vice President of India.

2. Poonam Dhull(24), a daughter of a driver employed with the Haryana government has bagged a scholarship of USD 50,000 for pursuing a PhD in Chemistry from University of South Carolina, USA.

3. Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja on Sunday became the first Indian bowler to top the bowlers' chart in the latest ICC ODI Player Rankings after former captain Anil Kumble claimed the pole position way back in 1996.

4. The BWF World Badminton Championships 2013 kicked off in Guangzhou, China today. World Number 3 Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu, P. Kashyap and Ajay Jayaram are the Indian shuttlers who are participating in the 7-day tournament.

5. The Government has decided to set up two new major ports –one each at Sagar in West Bengal and the other at Dugarajapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

6. Karnataka became the first state in the country to establish State Natural Calamities Relief fund of 125 crore rupees .

7. Indian girls created history by winning country's first ever bronze medal in the junior women hockey World Cup held in Monchengladbach, Germany on Sunday.

8. Indian chess player Parimarjan Negi has won "Politiken Cup" in Denmark. He had won the same tournament in 2009.
